Often visitors ask where the name Ghost Hill came from, this the story.
In the early 1860s, Oregon was in the midst of a gold rush. An old military road that stretched from southern Oregon to Portland ran through what is now the Bayliss farm. A miner traveling from the gold fields of southern Oregon to Portland with his hard-mined gold decided to camp for the night. He set up camp next to the road at the top of the hill that overlooks the site where the vineyard is now planted. During the night, someone sneaked into camp, killed the miner and his horse and stole his gold. To this day, the miner is said to wander the hill with his horse, looking for his stolen gold.
