The Bayliss family has been a part of this land for over 100 years. In 1906, brothers Daniel and Samuel Bayliss purchased the claim of James and Edna Greene. The Bayliss family started clearing and farming the land. In the 1920s, the farm was a dairy operation. Samuel Bayliss took milk by steamboat into Portland to sell. When Samuel and Barbra Bayliss purchased the farm from Daniel in the 1930s they moved out of the dairy business to raise wheat, hay, clover, peas and sheep. Their son Mike and daughter-in-law Drenda became more involved in the farm and moved to raising hay and beef cattle in the 70s and 80s. The vineyard is the only crop of the farm today. The farm is still a family farm, and the fourth and fifth generations of the Bayliss family are working and living on the farm today. Mike and Drenda live in the original farmhouse built by Daniel and Samuel. Mike, Drenda, their son Michael, their daughter Bernadette, and son-in-law Cameron Bower are working together to make the vineyard a success and preserve the farm for future generations.
